Directions to Servants: Performance in Honor of Nobutaka Kotake
Museum Past
Nobutaka Kotake has been involved in the scenography of many stage productions both in and outside of Japan, including all of the late period performances of “The Laboratory of Play Tenjo Sajiki”, a theatrical troupe founded by Shūji Terayama. In 1997, he joined the faculty of Musashino Art University as a professor in the Department of Scenography, Display, and Fashion Design. He has continued ever since to explore the potential of spatial expression at an art university where many different creators inspire each other. This performance of Directions to Servants, which has been performed in numerous major cities around the world since its first performance in Amsterdam in 1978, is presented in honor of Kotake’s retirement.
