While grounded in the traditions of Nihonga, Hidenori MAJIMA, unconstrained by its limits, has continued to pursue new forms of pictorial expression. Using the movement of water to fix on the surface the traces and overlaps of flowing ink and pigments, his distinctive method generates a worldview that goes beyond the realm of Nihonga and even seems to overlap with images of the creation of the universe. This exhibition looks back on his artistic career with a focus on his 〈Kinesis〉 series, whose title comes from a Greek word meaning “movement” or “change.”
